Milne to host Kids Fest, June 13

KidsFestMALVERN — Families of the region, gather round Great Valley Middle School on Saturday, June 13, for Rep. Duane Milne’s Annual Kids Fest extravaganza, the “Greatest Show in Chester County!”

Milne (R-167) will once again host his family event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school, 255 N. Phoenixville Pike in Malvern. Kids and their families will get to enjoy plenty of entertainment, engage in many fun, hands-on activities, as well as learn important information presented in kid-friendly style by dozens of government, non-profit and community organizations.

Attendance, parking and food items will be free at the festival, which will occur rain or shine.

“As not only a representative of this region but also as an educator, it’s always great to see how much families can learn from the local institutions serving them,” Milne said. “Giving them some quality time in a cheerful, lively setting with organizations in our community who look out for their interests is something I’m glad to do.”

At this year’s fest, kids will meet a member of the Philadelphia Union soccer team as well as Mickey Mouse, Captain America and Smokey the Bear. They’ll get to enjoy the Philadelphia Zoo on Wheels, fire safety drill, an obstacle course, a sports carnival, a rock wall, an inflatable slide, a miniature train ride, a “Meltdown” inflatable game, a golf-play area, Rolling Game station, singing performance, a Pinewood Derby, face painting, hair design, a cricket demonstration, Touch a Truck, the American Helicopter Museum’s “Stubby” copter, a juggling act, a balloon-animal demonstration and more.

Milne will return to the hot seat of his favorite recurring Kids Fest attraction, the dunk tank.

“Obviously this one’s intended more for fun than for learning but, then again, people do like to keep their elected officials humble,” Milne said.

Among the major civic themes covered at the event will be environmental stewardship by such organizations as Commonwealth Computer Recycling which also assisted at Milne’s annual Recycling, Shredding, and Drug Take-Back Day in April. Some of our region’s great emergency-response institutions will also be on hand for safety education by providing engaging demonstrations. Those include a Jefferson Hospital helicopter landing and walk-thru, and Malvern Fire Company’s antique fire truck rides. Local fire, ambulance and police departments will be present to greet kids and allow them to explore their vehicles. Amidst the fun and games, the event will also promote physical fitness with an Activate Chester County Walk.

Food vendors at the event will include On the Border, Rita’s Water Ice, the Desmond Hotel, TCBY, Hallman’s General Store, Chickie’s and Pete’s, Great Valley Grill, Seasons Pizza, Mompops, Dunkin Donuts, Penn Liberty Bank (bringing pretzels), Pepsi, Sam’s Club, Giant, and Acme.
