WEST CHESTER — State Senator Andy Dinniman recently recognized Edna Cramer on her 106th birthday.

“It is my pleasure to join Mrs. Cramer in marking 106 great years,” Dinniman said. “She is truly an inspiration and a role model for staying active in your senior years.”

She is the oldest living Chester County resident in memory, he added.

Dinniman invited Cramer and her family to his West Chester District Office for cake and a celebration marking her 106 years. In addition, he presented her with a special Senate citation and a letter from Governor Wolf in honor of her birthday.

Cramer, who lives in West Chester, continues to take pride in her independence. She did not retire until she was 90 years old and did not give up driving until she was 100.

Dinniman said he came to know Cramer through his 90+ Birthday program, in which he visits senior centers and senior living facilities throughout the region to offer birthday wishes to those 90 years and older.

“When I first met Edna she was 96,” he said. “It’s hard to believe that was a decade ago.”

Cramer was born in Illinois is 1909. She earned her accounting degree from Northwestern University. She married, raised a family and continued to work for most of her life.

“In her lifetime, Mrs. Cramer has seen 17 U.S. presidents, two World Wars and countless historical events that shaped the world we know today. She is literally, an eyewitness to American history and I enjoyed chatting with her,” Dinniman said.

Cramer credits her active lifestyle and genetics with her longevity, noting that she has a sister who recently turned 99.
