For some area youth, access to lacrosse gear, instruction, and an opportunity to play with friends is not always so easy.<\/p>\n<p>When a local community leader and volunteer, (who wishes to remain anonymous), celebrated a milestone birthday recently, friends rallied in\u00a0her honor by supporting one of her favorite causes &#8211; The Garage Community and Youth Center.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The thoughtful group gift initiative was led by Kennett-area youth lacrosse coach, Jill Hunt, who reached out to The Garage to learn of any needs or \u2018wish list\u2019 items they had. When Hunt learned that lacrosse &#8216;fiddle&#8217; sticks, indoor goal cages &amp; some basic instruction\u00a0were at the top of that list, Hunt set out on a mission to honor\u00a0her friend\u2019s birthday by organizing gifting with a purpose.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15163\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_3074.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15163\" class=\"wp-image-15163 size-medium\" style=\"border: 2px solid #000000; margin: 4px;\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_3074-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3074\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15163\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Game ON! Jonette &amp; Kayla, fans of the Garage, get some hands-on lacrosse instruction.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Hunt also reached out to Kennett High School\u2019s boys and girls lacrosse teams knowing that they would enjoy an opportunity to share the gift of lacrosse and offer area kids some basic pointers. The project\u00a0took off; and thanks to Hunt\u2019s efforts, Garage youth enjoyed an afternoon of indoor lacrosse, instruction and now have access to new equipment that enables them to hold pick-up games and burn off some serious after school &#8216;steam.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Kennett Square businesses, Pillar to Post Home Inspections and Enzo\u2019s Pizza, generously donated pizzas and bottled water to help keep the busy kids and volunteers well fed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15164\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_3078.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15164\" class=\"wp-image-15164 size-medium\" style=\"border: 2px solid #000000; margin: 4px;\" src=\"http:\/\/kennetttimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_3078-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3078\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15164\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thanks to the generosity of Kennett Square&#8217;s Pillar to Post Home Inspections &amp; Enzo&#8217;s Pizza, kids enjoyed a post lacrosse pizza party.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cSome kids don\u2019t know what their opportunities are, where to find resources or what their potential is&#8230;an event and gifts like these helps kids to see themselves in a positive light and make those connections happen,\u201d says Garage Executive Director Kristin Proto, \u201cI love these students and it is a blessing for me to get paid to invest in young lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about her\u00a0cool birthday initiative, the honoree was heard saying &#8220;It is only cool because I have the coolest friends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Garage&#8217;s mission is to empower youth to reach their potential academically, spiritually and socially.
