{"id":8998,"date":"2015-01-23T12:00:48","date_gmt":"2015-01-23T17:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=8998"},"modified":"2015-01-23T12:00:51","modified_gmt":"2015-01-23T17:00:51","slug":"ucf-board-thanks-students-for-a-day-on-and-not-a-day-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=8998","title":{"rendered":"UCF Board thanks students for \u2018a day on and not a day off\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em><strong>Board OKs 15 motions during busy meeting<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>By Karen Cresta<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em>Correspondent, The Times<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/UCFLogoWeb-300x269.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1027474\" style=\"margin: 4px;\" src=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/UCFLogoWeb-300x269.jpg\" alt=\"UCFLogoWeb\" width=\"300\" height=\"269\" \/><\/a>EAST MARLBOROUGH \u2013 The Board of Education held their regular meeting on Tuesday night.\u00a0 The board had a very productive meeting approving more than 15 items up for vote but took time to acknowledge the students and community for a day of service on Martin Luther King (MLK) Day.<\/p>\n<p>Samantha Seidenberger, a senior at Unionville High School (UHS) presented her monthly student report to the board.\u00a0 She emphasized the high numbers of students who volunteered in many capacities to give back to the community on MLK Day.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Seidenberger proudly reported, \u201cAs a district, we prepared for MLK Day and we wanted a day on and not a day off. We have always had a high turn-out of students who come to the schools and volunteer on MLK Day. I walked into the high school and there were students going in all different directions and to all different sites.\u00a0 It was really amazing to see how we came together as a community.\u00a0 I was amazed at what we were able to accomplish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carolyn Daniels, a board member and Communications chair, thanked organizers and volunteers and congratulated everyone that came out such as staff, administrators, teachers and students to help with the growing list of opportunities available each year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an honor to represent our community and children throughout all of the schools,\u201d Daniels stated.<\/p>\n<p>Kathy Do, a board member and Curriculum, Education and Technology chair, who was in attendance at the meeting for Kennett Area Human Resources Committee earlier Tuesday, cited the impressive amount of food the Kennett Square Food Cupboard received as part of the MLK initiatives.\u00a0 She indicated that the food at the cupboard and the programs that will be enhanced at United Way and La Communidad will reap the benefits for months to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFolks made a real and lasting difference,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Hoffman, principal of Charles F.
