{"id":42731,"date":"2025-11-25T09:39:54","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T14:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=42731"},"modified":"2025-11-25T09:39:56","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T14:39:56","slug":"wego-police-names-leahy-as-new-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=42731","title":{"rendered":"WEGO Police names Leahy as new Chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21037\" src=\"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/wegopatch.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"300\" \/>The Westtown-East Goshen Police Commission announced the appointment of David Leahy as the new Chief of Police for the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department (WEGO) following an extensive nationwide search.<\/p>\n<p>While new to this position, Chief Leahy is far from new to WEGO.<\/p>\n<p>He started with the department over twenty-six years ago as a patrol officer and has been there ever since.\u00a0 Prior to leading WEGO as Interim Chief for the last ten months, he was a Lieutenant on the WEGO Command Staff.\u00a0 While the match seemed perfect, the process of getting to this end point was extensive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat it eventually resulted in the elevation of Dave \u2014 from Interim Chief status in which he had served for ten and half months \u2014 to our next Police Chief during a time of expected challenge and commitment to change\u00a0 not just for law enforcement in general, but WEGO specifically \u2014is a testimonial to his transformational collaborative firm -but- fair leadership style, the respect with which he\u2019s held by those he leads (uniformed and administration),\u00a0 the elected policymakers to whom he reports, the township management teams with which he works,\u00a0 and our residents he serves,\u201d stated Police Commission Chair\u00a0 Richard Pomerantz.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Vice-Chair of the commission Cody Bright also expressed his satisfaction regarding the result.\u00a0 \u201cWhen we began this process, we did so unaware how it might end up. But knowing now that, with Dave as WEGO\u2019s Police Chief for years to come, I have no doubt our police department will continue its commitment to deliver excellent law enforcement services to our community,\u201d commented Bright.<\/p>\n<p>At his first Police Commission meeting since officially being selected to lead the department, Chief Leahy expressed gratitude and optimism for the future of WEGO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeading the officers of this department is a privilege and I look forward to remaining in this role long-term.
