PennDOT says four Chesco safety initiatives will receive part of $8.8 million<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\"IMG_0492\"<\/a>The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced Wednesday, Jan. 29, that $8.8 million in Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding will be distributed to 24 municipalities statewide to fund 32 safety projects. In Chester County, four projects will get a green light for improvements, a PennDot news release said.<\/p>\n

Under state law, fines from red light violations at 25 intersections in Philadelphia supply the grant funding. Pennsylvania\u2019s ARLE program aims to improve safety at signalized intersections by providing automated enforcement at locations where data shows red-light running has been an issue.\u00a0The law specifies that projects improving safety, enhancing mobility and reducing congestion can be considered for funding. Municipalities submitted more than 131 applications, totaling approximately $22.8 million, \u00a0the release said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Projects were selected by an eight-member committee based on criteria such as benefits and effectiveness, cost, local and regional impact, and cost sharing, the release said.<\/p>\n
