{"id":364,"date":"2013-02-01T20:28:20","date_gmt":"2013-02-02T00:28:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=364"},"modified":"2013-02-01T20:28:20","modified_gmt":"2013-02-02T00:28:20","slug":"supervisor-at-drivers-license-center-convicted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=364","title":{"rendered":"Supervisor at driver&#8217;s license center convicted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\"><strong>Jury said he issued licenses to known criminals, using other people&#8217;s data<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">By Kathleen Brady Shea<\/span><\/strong>, <em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;\">Managing Editor, The Times<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_365\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?attachment_id=365\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-365\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-365\" class=\" wp-image-365 \" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" alt=\"Khalif Abdullah Ali was convicted of identity theft, \" src=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Image.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-365\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Khalif Abdullah Ali was convicted by a Chester County jury of identity theft, tampering with public records, and related offenses.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A Philadelphia man accused of fraudulently issuing driver&#8217;s licenses at a Chester County \u00a0Drivers&#8217; License Center \u00a0was convicted Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A jury found Khalif Abdullah Ali, 43, a supervisor at the license center in East Whiteland Township, guilty of identity theft, tampering with public records, computer trespass, and related offenses.\u00a0 Working with wanted criminals, Ali used his government position to create authentic Pennsylvania driver\u2019s licenses with the biographical information of innocent citizens and then added the photograph of the criminal to the license.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis case was about public corruption and a significant public safety risk,\u201d said District Attorney Tom Hogan.\u00a0 \u201cThe defendant abused the trust of his position, using his government job to perpetrate a crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Hogan pointed out that the crimes put both law enforcement and the public at risk, shielding criminals behind seemingly legitimate driver\u2019s licenses.\u00a0 \u201cA police officer pulling over one of these criminals would have no idea that he was dealing with a potentially dangerous criminal,\u201d Hogan said, praising Assistant District Attorney Priya DeSouza, who tried the case, and Pennsylvania State Police, who led the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>One of the criminals Ali supplied with a driver\u2019s license was caught and testified against Ali during the trial; other driver\u2019s licenses created by Ali are still at-large, Hogan said.\u00a0 Ali is incarcerated in Chester County Prison awaiting sentencing by Senior Judge Thomas G.
