\"\"<\/a>If you\u2019re looking for holiday-themed activities where you can remain socially distanced safe and stay warm without having to be indoors, drive-through lights events provide a good option.<\/p>\n

The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County (www.dvcccpa.org<\/a> ) invites you to bundle up the kids and enjoy a night out while in the warmth of your car…no social distancing required.<\/p>\n

It is an invitation to enjoy the sights of the holiday season at the DVCC\u2019s First Annual Holiday Lights Driving Tour.<\/p>\n

With your registration, you will receive a custom digital map of homes decorated with holiday lights throughout Chester County. <\/p>\n

Then, between December 1 and 31, you will be able to take one of the tour\u2019s suggested routes or pick and choose the locations you\u2019d like to see.<\/p>\n

For those participating in the tour, the minimum suggested donation is $25 per car.<\/p>\n

Winter on Broad Street<\/p><\/div>\n

The Wells Fargo Center\u2019s ample parking lot on Broad Street below Pattison Avenue is hosting an inaugural holiday event now through January 3, 2021 \u2013 \u201cWinter on Broad Street: A Holiday Light Spectacular!\u201d<\/p>\n

Visitors to the display, which is located just steps from Wells Fargo Center, will have the opportunity to meander through 193 larger-than-life light sculptures and displays, indulge in yuletide confections and fill their senses with favorite holiday traditions.<\/p>\n

Visitors can stroll through this spacious outdoor experience\u00a0(160,000-plus square feet to allow for social distancing)\u00a0while taking in the\u00a0vast array of whimsical light installations powered by more than a half-million light bulbs.<\/p>\n

Marquee light sculptures include a 25-foot reindeer, a 20-foot ornament, two identical dazzling diamond sculptures, an enchanted forest of \u00a0more than 45 illuminated trees, an \u201cUnder the Tree\u201d pop up of life-size illuminated toys, glowing tunnels and winding icicle paths.<\/p>\n

Additional attractions are photo sessions with Gritty Claus and holiday-inspired sweets and treats and a \u201cMistletoe Marketplace\u201d selling hand-crafted ornaments, custom artwork, wintertime clothing and decor.<\/p>\n

Timed tickets are required to access the attraction, which has been set up for one-way, linear traffic to permit social distancing. Ticket prices start at $20.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>When The Grand in Wilmington (www.thegrandwilmington.org<\/a>) was forced by pandemic restrictions to halt its presentation of concerts and theater shows earlier this year, it responded by presenting a series of drive-in concerts this summer and drive-in movies in the fall.<\/p>\n

Now, The Grand is thrilled to turn on the lights around town with a new holiday activity sure to be enjoyed by multiple generations.<\/p>\n

The \u201cWinter in Wilmington Drive-Thru Holiday Light Show\u201d opens on November 27 and is scheduled to run through January 3, 2021 on Wilmington\u2019s Riverfront.<\/p>\n

When visitors drive their cars through the \u201cWinter in Wilmington Light Show,\u201d thousands of lights immerse them in a holiday vibe.<\/p>\n

The family-oriented activity features animated installations, interactive music, and holiday cheer.<\/p>\n

The displays cover a wide spectrum of holiday themes with Santa, elves, colorful arches, candy canes, Hanukkah Menorahs, Christmas trees, angels, reindeer and a huge jack-in-the-box \u2013 all created with colorful lights.<\/p>\n

According to The Grand\u2019s Executive Director Mark Fields, \u201cThe lights have to be out in our three theaters for the time being as we continue to weather the challenges of the coronavirus. We see this light show as a way that The Grand can still be a bright light for the entire community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tickets are $25 per car and are available online only at www.TheGrandWilmington.org<\/a>. To help make the event enjoyable for everyone, advanced online reservations\/pre-purchased admission is required.<\/p>\n

The Grand\u2019s \u201cWinter in Wilmington Drive-Thru Light Show\u201d will be open every Thursday-Sunday now through January 3 from 5-9:30 p.m. nightly.<\/p>\n

The holiday season at Herr\u2019s Snack Food Factory (20 Herr Drive,\u00a0Nottingham, 610-932-9330,\u00a0www.herrs.com<\/a>) has arrived. The area around the factory site will be illuminated with thousands of lights and holiday displays.<\/p>\n

Herr\u2019s Holiday Light Display<\/p><\/div>\n

Herr\u2019s \u201cHoliday Light Display,\u201d which is free and open to the public, will be open nightly now through January 2.<\/p>\n

Visitors to the site will be able to drive along a trail that is illuminated with more than 600,000 lights.<\/p>\n

The special light exhibit will be open daily from dusk to dawn.<\/p>\n

From December 4-6, Rockwood Park & Museum\u00a0(4651 Washington Street Extension,\u00a0Wilmington, Delaware, newcastlede.gov<\/a>) is hosting an event called \u201cDrive-Through Merry & Bright Holiday Lights at Rockwood Park<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rockwood Park<\/p><\/div>\n

The festive drive-through holiday light displays at Rockwood features colorful twinkling lights, holiday decorations, Santa sightings and delightful surprises \u2013 and you can enjoy it all from the comfort of your car.<\/p>\n

The family-friendly event is open from 6-9 p.m. each night and is free.<\/p>\n

From December 5 through January 9, Crispus Attucks Community Center<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Lancaster City Alliance<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Visit Lancaster City<\/a> are teaming up to present \u201c<\/strong>Light Up Southeast — Celebration of Lights.\u201d<\/p>\n

The display features more than 10,000 lights, 30 flags from around the world, more than 15 light displays and 30-foor Christmas tree.<\/p>\n

The event will take place on five blocks of South Duke Street (300-900), the Ewell\/Gantz Playground (400 block of Christian Street). The \u201cSACN Tree\u201d will be located at 200 South Ann Street.<\/p>\n

Participants can drive through or walk through the display and experience the holiday vibe.<\/p>\n

Christmas Spirit Light Show<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cChristmas Spirit Light Show<\/a>\u201d \u00a0is running now through December 31 (except December 7, 14 and 25) at Clipper Magazine Stadium<\/a> (650 North Prince Street,Lancaster,\u00a0christmasspiritlightshows.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u201cChristmas Spirit Light Show\u201d is an exciting, one-of-a-kind Christmas light display that families can enjoy from the comfort of their vehicles.<\/p>\n

As participants make the journey through the mile-long track, they get immersed and surrounded by hundreds of thousands of color-changing lights that are animated and dancing in harmony with favorite Christmas classics.<\/p>\n

The drive-through event is billed as a \u201cbreathtaking holiday experience that you and your loved ones will never forget.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cost is\u00a0$20 per car with eight people or less and $30 per car with nine or more people.<\/p>\n

Longwood Gardens<\/p><\/div>\n

Longwood Gardens (Route 1, Kennett Square, 610-388-1000, www.longwoodgardens.org<\/a>) is in full holiday mode with the 2020 edition of \u201cA Longwood Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n

The festive holiday display at Longwood Gardens, which is running now through January 5, features spectacular lights, lavish decorations, holiday music and colorful displays featuring thousands of brilliant poinsettias, brightly decorated trees and fragrant flowers — all inside the heated Conservatory.<\/p>\n

Inside, you have an opportunity to stroll among beautifully adorned trees and plant palettes of delicate winter whites to rich reds and the greenest of evergreens as you wrap yourself in a nostalgic Christmas morning scene. You can engage your senses with fragrant lilies and paperwhites, and relish in the timeless beauty of Christmas favorites like poinsettias and kalanchoe woven throughout the Conservatory.<\/p>\n

Outdoors, you can watch your family\u2019s eyes sparkle at all the wondrous sights and feel like a kid again with Longwood\u2019s whimsical\u00a0Garden Railway<\/a>. Celebrating its 20th<\/sup> anniversary, the Garden Railway is a fanciful blend of horticulture, engineering, and lighthearted fun in a special display located outdoors near the Terrace Restaurant. The Garden Railway operates during regular Gardens hours, weather permitting.<\/p>\n

Each fall, members of our Horticulture, Facilities, and Guest Services departments team up to achieve the not-so-small feat of creating this multi-level world in miniature. Longwood Gardens showcases its collection of 31 locomotives, steam engines, diesel engines, and specialty engines \u2013 including the ever-popular Thomas the Tank Engine and many of his friends — as they rumble along nearly 500 feet of track amid textural foliage, flowering plants, and woody plants.<\/p>\n

When darkness arrives at Longwood, a night-blooming garden of more than a half-million lights strung on close to 100 trees with approximately 40 miles of wire comes to life. A carillon with 62 cast bells plays holiday music every half hour during daylight hours. Longwood\u2019s Open Air Theatre fountains dance to holiday music each half hour — temperature permitting.<\/p>\n

As always, admission by \u201cTimed Ticket\u201d — tickets issued for specific dates and times. Timed ticketing limits the number of people in the Gardens at any given time and allows guests to enjoy minimal lines and a better viewing experience.<\/p>\n

You may enter the Gardens up to 30 minutes prior and 30 minutes after your designated time. Make every effort to arrive at your designated reservation time. Earlier or later arrivals may not be accommodated.<\/p>\n

Admission to Longwood Gardens is $30 for adults, $27 for seniors (ages 62 and older) and college students, $23 for active military and veterans and $16 for students (ages 5-18).<\/p>\n

Holiday Magic at Brandywine<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cHoliday Magic at Brandywine\u201d, which was formerly known as \u201cA Brandywine Christmas,\u201d is running now through January 10 at the Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford 610-388-2700,\u00a0www.brandywinemuseum.org<\/a>). It is an annual event that is fun for the entire family.<\/p>\n

The museum\u2019s ever-popular \u201ccritter\u201d ornaments will be used to decorate holiday trees, wreaths and diorama settings throughout the museum. The intricately designed ornaments are made from all-natural materials by museum volunteers and have found homes on trees at the White House and the Smithsonian Institution.<\/p>\n

The well-attended annual \u201cCritter Sale\u201d is scheduled for December 2-6.<\/p>\n

\u201cHoliday Magic at Brandywine\u201d also features an extensive O-gauge model.\u00a0Five moving trains operate at all times and include a 60-car freight train winding past a village, stone quarry, oil refinery, mountains, Herr Foods plant, running waterfall and animated skating scene.<\/p>\n

Slightly modified this year to provide a safe and socially distant experience, the Brandywine Railroad will still feature plenty of trains, miniature details and the engaging elements that everyone loves\u2014including interactive components operated by hands-free foot pedals.<\/p>\n

The Brandywine\u2019s famous O-gauge display will feature model trains running on a thousand feet of track through a small village, a drive-in movie theater and even a carnival. This year the Brandywine also welcomes the exciting new additions of two model train sets with layouts once owned by Nicky and Jamie Wyeth\u2014sons of the renowned American artist, Andrew Wyeth.<\/p>\n

Nicky Wyeth\u2019s standard gauge train display features historic\u202f\u201ctinplate\u201d Lionel trains from the 1920s and 30s traveling around colorful buildings and scenery, including a large bridge modeled after New York\u2019s Hell Gate Bridge. The 8 x 12-foot display was also recently enhanced with modern reproductions of a 1940s monorail.<\/p>\n

Artist Jamie Wyeth\u2019s N-gauge train display was originally co-owned by Jamie and his friend and fellow toy collector, artist Andy Warhol. Included in the 4 x 6 foot landscape are foothills of a mountain, train tunnels with a bridge crossing a lake, and even a diminutive industrial town with a main street packed with businesses and rowhouses, a steel mill, and a large metal warehouse featuring an oversized reproduction of Wyeth\u2019s own iconic painting,\u00a0Portrait of Pig<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Brandywine Railroad, this year\u2019s holiday offerings include the return of artist and composer Ann Wyeth McCoy\u2019s dollhouse, which features six rooms filled with three-dozen dolls and hundreds of miniature objects that will delight visitors of all ages.<\/p>\n

Another popular attraction is \u201cThe Polar Express Virtual Read-Aloud,\u201d which is scheduled for December 3.<\/p>\n

Admission is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors (65 and older) and $6 for children.<\/p>\n

Each December, the West Chester Public Library holds its \u201cAnnual Holiday Home Tour\u201d featuring homes in the borough which have been beautifully decorated for the holidays.<\/p>\n

The event has gone through a bit of mutation this year.<\/p>\n

From December 5-12, the West Chester Public Library is presenting its \u201cHoliday Door Tour,\u201d which is billed as \u201ca<\/em> healthy alternative to the Annual Home Tour.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Library posted this message:<\/p>\n

This year,\u00a0to preserve the health of our tour attendees through social distancing, the Library is replacing the annual\u00a0Home Tour with a decorated \u201cDoor Tour,\u201d which will run for eight days. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Participants can take a self-guided tour\u00a0to see the festively decorated doors and front porches of the beautiful homes in the Borough\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Front doors and porches on the tour will be decorated for the holidays to be enjoyed by attendees on a self-guided tour at a time of their choosing during the week.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The Coatesville Christmas Parade is always an eagerly anticipated area holiday tradition.<\/p>\n

The event, which is Chester County\u2019s largest hometown parade, was supposed to be held on the first weekend in December this year but COVID-19 had other ideas.<\/p>\n

In an effort to safeguard the attendees and participants of one of Coatesville\u2019s most cherished events, the Coatesville Christmas Parade Committee has announced the cancellation of the 2020 parade.<\/p>\n

The Parade Committee expressed disappointment for the community that this year\u2019s parade is cancelled but stressed the importance of keeping the community safe — \u201cOur first and foremost goal at the parade is always the safety of our attendees and participants. With the situation being what it still is with Covid-19, we realize that the dynamics of a parade will just not be possible this year, given the amount of participation we always have.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut all is not lost. We\u2019d like to invite you to view sixteen years of past parades on our website — www.coatesvillechristmasparade.com<\/a> — and catch all the things you may have missed standing outside on chilly Saturday mornings. \u201cChristmas Around The Farm\u201d converts a summertime destination for home-grown produce into a sparkling winter wonderland. The popular annual event at Linvilla Orchards (137 West Knowlton Road, Media, 610-876-7116,\u00a0www.linvilla.com<\/a>) is running now through December 23.<\/p>\n

Visitors will be able to cut their own Christmas trees, or, if not so inspired, purchase them at the shop\u00a0— which also features other decorations, including holiday wreaths. Christmasland features freshly cut trees, greens and holly, poinsettias, hand-made wreaths and a large variety of children\u2019s toys and collectables.<\/p>\n

Santa will be stopping by on December 11 and 18 from 2:30-3:30 and 4-5 p.m. Santa will also be on hand every Saturday and Sunday in December from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-3 p.m. Kids are encouraged to bring their Christmas list to remind Santa of what they are wishing for.<\/p>\n

To keep everyone safe this holiday season, Linvilla is asking that guests reserve a time slot ticket for each child visiting Santa. Timed tickets are our way to spread families out throughout the day. There is no fee.<\/p>\n

To be extra safe, Santa will be in an outdoor covered location and has brought his Noelziphone to Linvilla. The Noelziphone is a very special device (found only at Linvilla) that children can speak in to give Santa their list of wishes while still staying safely distanced.<\/p>\n

One of the best holiday events in the area is the annual \u201cYuletide at Winterthur.\u201d This year\u2019s 41st annual staging of the event, which runs from November 21 through January 3 at Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library (Route 52, Wilmington, Delaware,800-448-3883, www.winterthur.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Revel in the beauty and warmth of the holidays and explore treasures of Christmases past with displays of holiday traditions from the 1800s to the early 20th century, including displays of: the earliest types of colorful lights decorating house exteriors; the du Pont family holiday celebrations; and the evolution of Christmas trees over the decades from the 1880s to 1960s.
\nOne of visitors\u2019 favorites every year is the 18-room dollhouse mansion created by designer and philanthropist Nancy McDaniel over a period of 30 years. It features amazing intricate details in each room and is even decorated for the holidays.<\/p>\n

As always, the rooms will be enhanced with the floral displays so essential to du Pont\u2019s decorating, and with special Christmas trees inspired by the beauty of the Winterthur garden \u2013 including the\u00a0popular Dried Flower Tree in the Conservatory.<\/p>\n

A new feature this year is the \u201cOutdoor 3D Holiday Light Show,\u201d which is running from D<\/strong>ecember 1-12 from 5-9 p.m. each night. The Winterthur house serves as the backdrop for a du Pont family Christmas story, told using 3D images, video, lights, and sounds, for an immersive holiday experience. Another event premiere is \u201cS\u2019mores around the Fire\u201d on Saturdays and Sundays through January 3 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. each day.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Timed Yuletide Tour reservations are required. <\/strong>Admission to Yuletide at Winterthur is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors (age 62 and older) and students (12 and over) and $6 for children (ages 2-11).<\/p>\n

There are plenty of reasons to take the short drive to Delaware this holiday season with tax-free shopping on everything at the top of the list. Another major reason is the annual staging of \u201cHolidays at Hagley\u201d \u2014 an event that is always one of the most eagerly anticipated holiday attractions in this area every year.<\/p>\n

The popular Brandywine Valley exhibit, which is included with regular admission, continues through January 1 at Hagley Museum and Library (Route 141, Wilmington, Delaware, 302-658-2400,\u00a0www.hagley.org<\/em><\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

Visitors to \u201cHolidays at Hagley\u201d this season will have the opportunity to see the property decked out for the holidays and enjoy a variety of activities.<\/p>\n

On Workers\u2019 Hill, they can sample individually wrapped cookies outside the Gibbons House and peek into a 19th-century kitchen where cookies would have been baked in a woodstove.<\/p>\n

Visitors can also stop by and see the festive entries in\u00a0Hagley’s annual Gingerbread House Competition. These edible works of art will be\u00a0on display in the Millwright Shop.<\/p>\n

Admission is $9 for adults and $5 for children (ages six and under).<\/p>\n

The Historic Odessa Foundation (Main Street, Odessa, Delaware, 302-378-4119, www.historicodessa.org<\/a>) has two things going this holiday season \u2013 an outdoor holiday light display and an art exhibit.<\/p>\n

This year, the\u00a0Historic\u00a0Odessa\u00a0Foundation\u00a0(HOF) is breaking from tradition of presenting yuletide vignettes inspired by classic children\u2019s literature in order to bring seasonal sparkle to the 18th\u00a0century hamlet of\u00a0Odessa\u00a0with\u00a0thousands of lights\u00a0adorning the Historic Houses of\u00a0Odessa.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook for the Light:\u00a0Odessa\u00a0at Night\u201d\u00a0begins on November 25 and runs through January 3 from 5-10 p.m. nightly.<\/p>\n

Historic\u00a0Odessa\u00a0has had a long and storied past for celebrating the holidays. For 34 years the Historic Houses of\u00a0Odessa, in the spirit of community partnership, and bedecked for the festive season, has thrown open the doors of its nationally recognized colonial buildings through which thousands of visitors have passed each Christmastime.<\/p>\n

Every year, HOF staff have recreated holiday vignettes from a selection of children\u2019s literature, but due to COVID-19 restrictions this will be the first year in more than three decades that Historic\u00a0Odessa\u00a0is unable to welcome the visiting public to tour a featured storybook house. As a result, the festivities have been moved outdoor with the focus on holiday lighting.<\/p>\n

There will also be \u201cCandlelight Walking Tours\u201d of the foundation\u2019s museum properties every Tuesday and Thursday evening in December beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include a libation at\u00a0Cantwell\u2019s Tavern. Additionally, HOF is presenting its final art exhibit of the year titled\u00a0\u201cOneness in Spirit: Art from The Artists\u2019 Gallery in Chestertown\u201d now through December 30.<\/p>\n

The Artists\u2019 Gallery in Chestertown, Md., currently operates with five partners that include\u00a0Evie Baskin,\u00a0Bonnie Howell,\u00a0Mary Ellen Mabe,\u00a0Nancy R. Thomas, and\u00a0Barbara Zuehlke. Each is represented in this vibrant exhibit of their paintings at the Historic Odessa\u2019s Visitors Center.<\/p>\n

The artists work well together, serving the same goal of presenting a wide range of fine art. Since the partners take turns working at the gallery, visitors get the opportunity to meet the artists and often view works in progress. The gallery celebrates both its variety and its oneness of spirit in providing a showplace for the partners and many other local and regional artists and craftsmen whose work often includes paintings, photography, pottery, woodcrafts and much more.<\/p>\n

For years, a local tradition to celebrate the holidays has been to go on a \u201cHoliday Hayride\u201d at Arasapha Farm (1835 Middletown Road, Gradyville, 610-459-2944, www.holidayhayride.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Arasapha Farms will not be running the \u201cHoliday Hayride\u201d this year due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, Arasapha Farm will be open for people to cut their own Christmas trees on Saturdays and Sundays through December . Cutting hours will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.<\/p>\n

Additionally, pre-cut Christmas tree sales\u00a0will be available for purchase on weekdays from 3-8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Social distance photos with Santa\u00a0will be available\u00a0every Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be a bustle of holiday action in Lancaster through December starting with several events this weekend.<\/p>\n

The City of Lancaster will celebrate First Friday on December 4 from 5-9 p.m. at a variety of venues in the center of town.<\/p>\n

Unique, local shops and excellent restaurants complement the artisan studios, museums, performing groups, professional theater, symphony orchestra, and art college that comprise Lancaster City\u2019s arts community.<\/p>\n

Some of the highlights of this month\u2019s \u201cFirst Friday\u201d celebration will be art exhibitions at several galleries in the downtown area.<\/p>\n

The event\u2019s website posted the following message:<\/p>\n

The City of Lancaster will kick off the holiday season with the \u201cWeekend Winter Wonderland\u201d on December 4 and 5.<\/p>\n

Visitors will be able to get in the holiday spirit with Santa\u2019s arrival to the city and mobile holiday performances throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n

The traditional kick-off to the holidays, the Mayor\u2019s Tree Lighting, will be reimagined as a series of events called the \u201cWeekend Winter Wonderland\u201d.<\/p>\n

This year, Santa plans to keep everything merry and bright by making his way through Lancaster City\u2019s neighborhoods. With the help of the Lancaster City Fire & Police Bureaus, the \u201cKringle Caravan\u201d will escort Santa around the city to see Lancaster\u2019s families.<\/p>\n

The Kringle Caravan\u201d will run on December 4 from 2-7 p.m., December 5 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and December 5 from 2-5 p.m.<\/p>\n

Prima Theatre\u2019s \u201cLancarolers\u201d will hit the streets of Lancaster City for a festive mobile holiday performance on December 4 from 4-7 p.m.<\/p>\n

The American Music Theatre (2425 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, 800-648-4102, www.AMTshows.com<\/a>) has a long tradition of presenting holiday shows every November and December.<\/p>\n

The tradition continues this year \u2013 with a difference. This year, it\u2019s the \u201c2020 AMT Virtual Christmas Show: Home For Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guests can tour President James Buchanan\u2019s Wheatland virtually this year for Yuletide at Wheatland.<\/p>\n

Join a tour guide, in real-time over Zoom, to traverse the festively decorated halls and rooms of the 1828 mansion. From the comfort of your home, learn about the public and personal life of James Buchanan through the lens of Yuletides and traditions past.<\/p>\n

From Yuletide menus and meals to how Christmastime was celebrated during the Civil War, viewers will learn how Buchanan and his family experienced Yuletide in the mid-1800s.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $15 per connection. Because the tour is held virtually over Zoom, viewers will connect to the tour via a special Zoom weblink. Only one (1) connection is required to watch on one (1) screen. Therefore, ticket purchases are limited to one (1) ticket or connection per transaction.<\/p>\n

There is something special about riding on a train that is being pulled by a steam or diesel locomotive. Almost everyone enjoys the experience — even Santa Claus. This year, Santa will be visiting several of the area\u2019s tourist railroads to take special rides with his friends.<\/p>\n

One of the best train rides with Santa Claus is the one presented by the West Chester Railroad (Market Street Station, West Chester, 610-430-2233 or www.westchesterrr.net<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The special \u201cSanta\u2019s Express\u201d trains (which feature heated cars decorated for the holidays) will run on December 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. There will be additional departures at 5 p.m. on December 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20.<\/p>\n

The 75-minute journey on the trail line\u2019s heated decorated train travels through the Chester Creek Valley. Santa Claus will be greeting everyone at Market Street Station and then going along for the ride to Glen Mills.<\/p>\n

Live music will be provided by Greg Wright.<\/p>\n

Adult fare for the West Chester Railroad trips is $30. Tickets for children (ages 2-12) are $20 while toddlers (ages 9-23 months) get to ride for $8.<\/p>\n

Additionally, West Chester Railroad is again hosting its popular \u201cChristmas Tree Train\u201d this holiday season on December 6 and 13.<\/p>\n

The rail line has partnered with Wiggins Tree Farm in West Chester. The train will depart Market Street Station at 8 a.m. Once on board, passengers will enjoy coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts.<\/p>\n

The train will arrive at Wiggins at approximately 8:30 a.m. where passengers will disembark to choose and cut down a Christmas tree (hand saws will be supplied). Once a tree is picked, it will be banded up, tagged, and placed on our flat car. At 9:45 a.m., passengers will then board the train and be brought back to West Chester where the trees will be offloaded from the train.<\/p>\n

The trip is approximately two and seating is very limited so please order soon. All trees have the\u00a0special price of $60\u00a0for all Tree Train ticket holders. The price of the tree is not included in the price of your ticket.<\/p>\n

The Wilmington & Western Railroad (2201 Newport Gap Pike, Wilmington, Delaware, 302-998-193, www.wwrr.com<\/a>) will run its \u201cSanta Claus Express\u201d on Saturdays and Sundays between Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as December 23.<\/p>\n

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be riding along with passengers on the steam-powered 90-minute round trip to Ashland Station. They will be greeting everyone on board and offering chocolate treats to the youngsters. Santa will also be posing for pictures with his fans.<\/p>\n

Steam locomotion will return to the Wilmington & Western for its annual Santa Claus Express. The rail line\u2019s 0-6-0 switcher No. 58 has returned to service after a multi-year restoration and will power some of Santa\u2019s trains through the Red Clay Valley this season.<\/p>\n

Due to State of Delaware requirements, the railroad must maintain fresh airflow through the train. Although the train will be heated, doors and windows on the train will be open for December excursions. As a result,\u00a0passengers are encouraged to dress warmly (or in layers) for this excursion.<\/p>\n

Tickets for these trains, which run now through December 23, are $21 for adults, $19 for senior citizens and $18 for children.<\/p>\n

The tourist rail line will also be running special \u201cHoliday Night Express Trains,\u201d featuring a peaceful evening ride. Tickets for these trains, which are running now through December 30, are $16 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and $14 for children.<\/p>\n

The Strasburg Rail Road (Route 741, Strasburg, 717-687-7522, www.strasburgrailroad.com<\/a>) is running its \u201cSanta\u2019s Paradise Express\u201d now through December 20. Santa will be the featured guest on each ride from Strasburg to Paradise and back.<\/p>\n

The rotund guy in the red suit will be greeting passengers, shaking hands, posing for photos and giving a treat to each child. After the train ride, children are treated to storybook readings of holiday classics. Visitors of all ages can also enjoy a ride aboard the Tinsel Trolley, a self-propelled motor car.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $21 for adults, $15 for children (ages 2-11) and $4 for infants.<\/p>\n

The Strasburg Railroad will also be running its \u201cNight Before Christmas Train\u201d on December 4, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23.<\/p>\n

This very special train recreates the excitement and anticipation of Christmas Eve. A reader dressed in a Victorian nightshirt and cap will read Clement Clarke Moore\u2019s classic poem\u00a0\u201cThe Night Before Christmas\u201d<\/em> as the train rolls along. After the poem is read, passengers can enjoy a treat of milk and cookies.<\/p>\n

Tickets for the \u201cNight Before Christmas Train\u201d are $21 for adults, $15 for children (ages 3-11) and $4 for toddlers (under age 3).<\/p>\n

Children are also treated to storybook readings of holiday classics aboard the stationary heated caboose and visitors of all ages can enjoy a ride aboard \u201cSanta\u2019s Christmas Trolley,\u201d a self-propelled motor car.<\/p>\n

Trolley rides are offered on December 4, 11, 18, 21, 22 and 23. All tickets are $30.<\/p>\n

The New Hope & Ivyland Railroad (32 Bridge Street, New Hope, 215-862-2332, www.newhoperailroad.com<\/a>) is operating its \u201cNorth Pole Express\u201d now through December 30. Tickets start at $55.99 for adults, $45.99 for children (ages 3-11) and $14.99 for infants (ages 0-2).<\/p>\n

Passengers can ride the rails with Santa, Mrs. Claus and a group of holiday revelers. Children and adults of all ages can sip hot cocoa and enjoy cookies while Santa visits with each child and presents them with a special gift. Local musicians will be on board to play and sing Christmas carols.<\/p>\n

There will also be the rail line\u2019s \u201cSanta Steam Spectacular\u201d excursions running from November 29 until December 24.<\/p>\n

Guests are invited to welcome the return of the historic #40 steam engine by joining Santa and Mrs. Claus for a ride upon their magical Steam Train adventure through the historic Bucks County countryside. This Santa Steam Spectacular departs New Hope Station for a round trip to the North Pole.<\/p>\n

Tickets start at $69.99 for adults, $59.99 for children (ages 3-11) and $15.99 for infants (ages 0-2).<\/p>\n

The Colebrookdale Railroad (South Washington Street, Boyertown, www.colebrookdalerailroad.com<\/a>)\u00a0 is running its \u201cSanta\u2019s Polar Bear Express\u201d now through December 20.<\/p>\n

Kids can join Santa on a magical adventure into \u201cChristmas Past\u201d on an exciting train journey. They will be able to sip complimentary hot cocoa or enjoy Christmas cookies and, on some trains,\u00a0sing favorite carols as the Secret Valley passes by the window. Santa will bring a gift for every child, and every child has an opportunity to give their Christmas letter to him.<\/p>\n

The rail line also is running \u201cTwas the Night Before Christmas\u201d excursions now through December 20.<\/p>\n

These special evening trains bring the storybook magic of the season to life. Kids are invited to wear pajamas and sip complimentary hot cocoa as the train crew reads \u201c’Twas the Night Before Christmas.\u201d Rumor has it Santa himself will\u00a0appear with a gift for every child.<\/p>\n

Tickets for the \u201cPolar Express\u201d or the \u201cNight Before Christmas\u201d excursions are $65 for adults, $45 for children (2-12), $62 for seniors and $15 for toddlers (under 2).<\/p>\n

The Allentown and Auburn Railroad (35 Railroad Street, Kutztown, 570-778-7531, https:\/\/allentown-and-auburn-railroad.square.site\/<\/a>) is running special \u201cSanta Claus Train Rides\u201d on December 5, 6, 12, 13 19 and 20.<\/p>\n

The train will make a brief stop at the railroad\u2019s picnic grove where riders will have the option to purchase \u201choliday evergreens with a sprinkle of Christmas magic.\u201d When they get back to the Kutztown Train Station, visitors can also do some holiday shopping in the Allentown & Auburn Gift Shop, which features handmade and antique items.<\/p>\n

Trains depart at 10 a.m., noon and 2 and 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $9 for children and $.01 for toddlers (ages two and under).<\/p>\n

Reading Blue Mountain Railroad (3501 Pottsville Pike, Reading,\u00a0www.rbmnrr-passenger.com<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) is running its Santa Claus Special Train Rides 2020 on Saturdays and Sunday now through December 20.<\/p>\n

Santa and his helpers will be greeting passengers on the train platform and live holiday music will be performed during the train rides. Additionally, \u201cWinter Characters\u201d will be walking through the train.<\/p>\n

Departures are 10:30 a.m., 1 and 3:30 p.m. on December 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $17 for adults and $9 for children (ages 3-12).<\/p>\n

The Wannamaker, Kempton & Southern Railroad (42 Community Center Drive, Kempton,\u00a0www.kemptontrain.com<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) will run its \u201cSanta Claus Express\u201d on one weekend only this year and it\u2019s this weekend.<\/p>\n

On December 5 and 6, trains will depart at 11 a.m., noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

Join Santa, Mrs. Claus, Frosty the Snowman and the Elves as they bring in the season at the WK&S. There will be free gifts for the children as Santa walks through the train.<\/p>\n

On the day of your trip, you may board the train up to 15 minutes before your departure. The train, gift shop, and rest rooms are all heated in the event of cold weather.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the model train display, run by the\u00a0Schuylkill & Lehigh Model Railroad Club, will be open in the red coach behind the ticket office.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $12 for adults and children (age three and older) and $2 for children (age two and under).<\/p>\n

Christmas trains also come in a smaller variety. Model railroad displays and the Christmas holiday season have been linked together since a time before even your parents were even kids.<\/p>\n

The Morris Arboretum (100 Northwestern Avenue, Chestnut Hill, 215-247-5777, http:\/\/www.morrisarboretum.org<\/a>) opened its popular Garden Railway Display a few weeks ago and will keep it running through December 31.<\/p>\n

The display and buildings are all made of natural materials \u2013 bark, leaves, twigs, hollow logs, mosses, acorns, dried flowers, seeds and stones \u2013 to form a perfectly proportioned miniature landscape complete with small streams. Each building, while an exact replica of the original, is unique in its design. Philadelphia-area landmarks such as a masterpiece replica of Independence Hall are made using pinecone seeds for shingles, acorns as finials and twigs as downspouts.<\/p>\n

The buildings are all meticulously decorated for the holidays with lights that twinkle along the tracks and around the surrounding landscape. The Garden Railway Display has become one of the Arboretum\u2019s most beloved attractions since it opened in 1998, and the Holiday Garden Railway is quickly becoming a favorite holiday tradition for many families.<\/p>\n

There will also be Holiday Garden Railway Nights on <\/strong>December 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. each night.<\/p>\n

Admission to the Morris Arboretum is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors (65 and older) and $10 for students and military.<\/p>\n

The 2020 Franklin Square Holiday Festival (200 North Sixth Street, Philadelphia, http:\/\/www.historicphiladelphia.org\/franklin-square\/holidays-in-franklin-square\/<\/a>) opens its season this weekend and it will run until December 31.<\/p>\n

The Electrical Spectacle Holiday Light Show<\/em> will be open from 4-8 p.m. daily and 4-9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.<\/p>\n

Visitors are invited to experience the magic of the holidays and celebrate traditions new and old at the Franklin Square Holiday Festival.<\/p>\n

Inspired by Benjamin Franklin\u2019s electrifying genius, the free\u00a0Electrical Spectacle Holiday Light Show presented by PECO is the key to holiday fun in Franklin Square.<\/p>\n

Attendees can marvel at more than 50,000 lights as they shimmer, dance, and illuminate the Square to a soundtrack of holiday classics, some of which are performed by\u00a0The Philly POPS in two alternating shows every 30 minutes. Every evening, one lucky audience member will be selected to \u201cignite\u2019 the 4:30 p.m. show.<\/p>\n

Also available throughout the season will be the opportunity to play mini-golf on the Chilly Philly Mini Golf course.<\/p>\n

Winter has arrived and the Blue Cross RiverRink (Delaware Avenue at Walnut Street, Philadelphia, 215-925-RINK, www.riverrink.com<\/a>) has come back to life.<\/p>\n

Unlike most of the suburban ice rinks, RiverRink features public skating. Ice skating is the only use of the ice. This winter, RiverRink takes the ice-skating experience on the Delaware River waterfront to another level by once again transforming the annual rink into a bona fide winter wonderland.<\/p>\n

Open seven days a week, the Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest is an immersive winter-themed experience with a popular bar and restaurant called The Lodge, winter beer garden-style landscaping, a brand-new light show, and a retail shopping experience from Art Star Gallery & Boutique.<\/p>\n

The outdoor rink\u2019s hours are 1-10:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 1 p.m.-12:30 a.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m.-12:30 a.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. on Sundays. Skating admission prices are $4 for admission and $10 for skate rental.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Deck the Hall Holiday Lights\u00a0(centercityphila.org<\/a>) are back for another season of lighting up the western fa\u00e7ade of City Hall.<\/p>\n

The newly redesigned illumination will feature continuous, uninterrupted projections, with sound effects on the west fa\u00e7ade of City Hall from 5-9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. This unique experience, which is free, will continue through January 1, 2021.<\/p>\n

The building comes alive with technicolor projections which have been created by Klip Collective. They are synchronized to sound effects to animate the historic Philadelphia landmark.<\/p>\n

To keep crowds from building up, the illumination plays continuously on a 30-minute loop.<\/p>\n

This year, the American Swedish Historical Museum (1900 Pattison Avenue, Philadelphia, 215-389-1776<\/a>, www.americanswedish.org<\/a>) is breaking its annual tradition of presenting its Lucia Celebration and Julmarknad in early December because of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

The museum has cancelled its Lucia Celebration and is bringing its traditional market outside. Visitors are invited to bundle up and visit the Museum the first weekend of December for a unique shopping opportunity.<\/p>\n

Although 2020 has presented some logistical challenges for hosting this event, the centuries old European custom of outdoor markets helps provide a safer COVID shopping experience.<\/p>\n

This year, the market will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on December 5 and 6. It features an assortment of craft vendors featuring Scandinavian and\/or\u00a0hemsl\u00f6jd<\/em>\u00a0(handmade) items. The Auxiliary Deli will be taking pre-orders of food that will be available for easy pick-up at the event.<\/p>\n

The museum will have live music during market hours. Additionally, a ceremonial Lucia host will be attending the free event to greet guests. The event is free to attend\u00a0be sure to attend for a magical outdoor cultural shopping experience!<\/p>\n

When the Christmas season arrives in Europe, it is common to see Christmas villages erected in downtown locations of big cities. These villages are temporary sites that feature live music, a variety of holiday attractions and a large number of specialized vendors.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia is keeping pace with the European cities with a Christmas village of its own — a special site that springs to life this weekend and continues until December 24. It will officially open on November 23.<\/p>\n

\u201cChristmas Village in Philadelphia\u201d (Love Park, 1400 JFK Boulevard, Philadelphia, www.philachristmas.com<\/a>) is a free outdoor holiday market event that captures the vibe of the traditional European Christmas markets.<\/p>\n

Christmas Village in Philadelphia is modeled after traditional German Christmas Markets.<\/strong>\u00a0The history of Christmas markets in Germany dates to the late Middle Ages. One of the oldest and most famous ones is held each year in Nuremberg in the state of Bavaria.<\/p>\n

It has been passed down from generation-to-generation ever since the\u00a0area\u2019s farmers started selling their crops in a farmers\u2019 market during the Advent time in the mid-16th century. The goods presented in wooden booths include a rich variety of holiday gifts including Christmas ornaments, arts and crafts, toys, sweets, as well as German food and drinks. People stroll around, meet friends, and enjoy live performances of Christmas music.<\/p>\n

At the Village in Philadelphia, vendors selling traditional European food, sweets and drinks are set up in 80 wooden booths and timber houses that form a medieval village. They will also offer a unique shopping experience with international holiday gifts, ornaments, jewelry and high-quality arts and crafts.<\/p>\n

The Village will feature the sights and sounds of the holidays with thousands of twinkling lights, giant glowing stars, festive decorations, a musical stage and children\u2019s activities. All the event\u2019s annual fan favorites will be back, including Photos with Santa, K\u00e4the Wohlfahrt, Herrnhuter Stars, the German Grill and the event\u2019s main stage.<\/p>\n

At the center of the market, an ornate and grand old-time carousel will be operating to give children of all ages a new holiday tradition while visiting the authentic German Christmas Market. The carousel features 20 wood-carved horses that will twirl around for an unforgettable view of the new market inside City Hall\u2019s courtyard.<\/p>\n

Bethlehem, which is known as the \u201cChristmas City,\u201d presents Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem (PNC Plaza at SteelStacks, 645 East First Street, Bethlehem, 610-332-1300,http:\/\/www.christmascity.org<\/a>) every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday now through December 6.<\/p>\n

Celebrating its 28th season, Christkindlmarkt is a one-of-a-kind family event that brings Bethlehem alive with the spirit of the season.<\/p>\n

Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem showcases aisles of exquisite handmade works by the nation\u2019s finest artisans.<\/p>\n

From stunning fine art photos of the Christmas City to handmade Moravian glass stars, Christkindlmarkt 2020 will offer a one-of-a-kind shopping experience that focuses on handmade gifts crafted by local and regional artisans, as well as holiday d\u00e9cor and collectibles offered by some of the region\u2019s top Christmas vendors.<\/p>\n

The market also features live performances of Christmas music and vendors with an amazing variety of tasty food items.<\/p>\n

Other special attractions include ice carving, glassblowing demonstrations, \u201cBreakfast with St. Nicholas,\u201d outdoor artisan huts, fire pits and igloos in the Outdoor Village, and K\u00e4the Wohlfarht with handmade ornaments, nutcrackers and collectibles from Germany.<\/p>\n

For 2020, the event has undergone a major transformation. Gone are the four large tents on SteelStacks\u2019 PNC Plaza and in is a spacious, new layout highlighted by artisans and artists\u2019 huts spread across the SteelStacks campus, coupled with the unique holiday d\u00e9cor and lighting of Rileighs Outdoor D\u00e9cor.<\/p>\n

Now that Christmas activities have begun, Peddler\u2019s Village (Routes 202 and 263, Lahaska, 215-794-4000, http:\/\/peddlersvillage.com<\/a>) is starting its \u201cHolidays in the Village\u201d celebration and that means there will be a lot of activity at the site over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

The Gingerbread Competition & Display is a feast for the eyes with creative and whimsical entries in several categories.<\/p>\n

Slated to run through January 9, the \u201cGingerbread House Competition\u201d features over $2,000 in cash prizes in such categories as Traditional and Authentic Reproduction of a Significant Building.<\/p>\n

The Gingerbread entries will be on exhibit in the Shop #1 during shopping hours from November through early January. Entries are open to the public. Admission is free. Guests will be asked to wear masks and to social distance.<\/p>\n

With more than 50 specialty shops, Peddler\u2019s Village\u2019s beautiful decorations and one million twinkling lights, set the mood for another holiday season.<\/p>\n

Families can participate in\u00a0Elf on the Stealth, an outdoor walking tour where visitors join Mrs. Claus in search of a missing elf.<\/p>\n

\u201cHolidays in the Village\u201d is open now through January 10.<\/p>\n

Another Bucks County attraction is the \u201cHoliday Light Show\u201d at Shady Brook Farm (931 Stony Hill Road, Yardley, www.shadybrookfarm.com<\/a>)<\/p>\n

The farm features a three–million-light\u00a0Holiday Light Show\u00a0with\u00a0\u201cDashin\u2019 Through the \u2026 Lights,\u201d a family-friendly two-mile drive-through on Thursday and Friday nights.<\/p>\n

The main display allows visitors to drive or (if weather permits) ride in wagons past post-sundown displays including illuminated tunnels.<\/p>\n

The \u201cHoliday Light Show\u201d is open now through January 10.<\/p>\n

This 1.5-mile journey through Old Mill Stream Campground is the perfect way to experience the magic of the season by taking in whimsical scenes, hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights, and special surprises.
\nSanta will be present each operating evening through December 23. After that, he heads back to the North Pole to prepare for the big day!<\/p>\n

Holiday Lights is open 5-9 p.m. through December 31 excluding December 24 and 25. Tickets start at $15 per vehicle.<\/p>\n

The attraction features the \u201cWorld\u2019s Tallest Underwater Christmas Tree.\u201d <\/strong>At over 18 feet tall, the tallest underwater Christmas tree on Earth has arrived in Shark Realm. Scuba Santa has collected corals from all over the world\u2019s oceans to decorate the tree along with colorful shells, thousands of twinkling lights, enchanting bubbles and a bit of magic.<\/p>\n

\u201cChristmas Underwater\u201d offers a variety of activities geared for all ages including \u201cScuba Santa Appearances.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

New this year, while Scuba Santa is taking breaks from diving, guests can visit him for photos from his Magic Snow Globe.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The annual event, which runs through January 3, offers a wide array of family holiday activities.<\/p>\n
