{"id":22666,"date":"2017-10-05T08:48:59","date_gmt":"2017-10-05T12:48:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=22666"},"modified":"2017-10-05T08:49:02","modified_gmt":"2017-10-05T12:49:02","slug":"dont-retire-refire-what-are-you-hanging-onto-that-you-should-let-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=22666","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t retire, Refire: What are you hanging onto that you should let go?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Gail Supplee Tatum<\/strong>, <em>Columnist, The Times<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Tatum.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5362\" src=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Tatum.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a>As we go through life, we carry memories and emotions that warm our hearts but also ones that block our creative flow and, sometimes, because of that blockage, we are stifled to the point where many of us don\u2019t believe we\u2019re worthy or deserving.\u00a0 We lose our confidence, our Mojo.\u00a0 This might seem like a grim way to start an article but, keep reading, I\u2019m about to unveil how that mindset can be altered.<\/p>\n<p>The following concepts may resonate with you and bring to the surface some underlying barriers that have been holding you back from greatness.\u00a0 Yes, I said greatness.\u00a0 We all have it in us, if we\u2019d only realize it.\u00a0 Consider the following and see where you fit in.\u00a0 What questions are you prompted to ask yourself and are the answers close behind.\u00a0 \u00a0If the answers are not close behind, my goal is to offer some insight that may not have crossed your mind.<!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Put the past in the past. Are some of the negative opinions you have about yourself based on something that happened when you were a child? Did you make up a story about it and was that story altered each time you told it, kind of like \u201cwhisper down the lane,\u201d where the story changes and almost becomes unrecognizable?\u00a0 In my experience, it\u2019s either bigger than it really was, at the time it happened, or it truly is big and serious enough where you must address it and clear it up with yourself and whoever else is a part of that story.\u00a0 If you think it might be difficult to let go of, look at it and realize that the story was created from the perspective of a child.\u00a0 Your story may be more recent and not from childhood but, in my experience, our blockage usually is from something that happened in our childhood.\u00a0 We\u2019ve grown and matured and understand that to move forward we can\u2019t focus on the view behind us.<\/li>\n<li>Know your worth. Others can\u2019t give that to you. It\u2019s something you believe in your heart and soul.\u00a0 It starts with thinking about what your talents and special skills are.\u00a0 You might think that your special skill isn\u2019t so special, BUT, if you share it, you might be surprised at how much people go, \u201cWow!\u201d Surround yourself with people who believe in you and steer away from those naysayers, because they are out there!\u00a0 Zig Ziglar says, \u201cIf you find yourself constantly trying to prove your worth to someone, you have already forgotten your value,\u201d so don\u2019t forget!<\/li>\n<li>Go BIG! I believe that we were all put on this earth for a reason, big or small. For now, I\u2019m focusing on BIG! Napolean Hill says, \u201cWhat the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.\u201d Consider this; it takes just as much time and energy to achieve big goals as it does little goals. \u00a0With that said, why not go big!\u00a0 Write down one huge goal.\u00a0 There are no limitations.\u00a0 For now, you\u2019re just putting pen to paper.\u00a0 The first thing you will write is the outcome.\u00a0 Visualize yourself there, in that moment, accomplishing what you set out to do.\u00a0 Feel the elation.\u00a0 Linger in all of that for a few moments.\u00a0 Now, write out how you\u2019re going to get there!\u00a0 Don\u2019t think of the road blocks.
