{"id":20974,"date":"2017-06-08T08:54:31","date_gmt":"2017-06-08T12:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=20974"},"modified":"2017-06-08T08:54:33","modified_gmt":"2017-06-08T12:54:33","slug":"downingtowns-tredway-named-nec-student-athlete-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=20974","title":{"rendered":"Downingtown&#8217;s Tredway named NEC Student-Athlete of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/TredwayStudent2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4264\" src=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/TredwayStudent2-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>SOMERSET, NJ<strong> \u2013<\/strong> Wagner College softball standout <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd1\" href=\"http:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=8338\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"8338\">Brianna Tredway<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0of Downingtown\u00a0was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Student-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Tredway&#8217;s honor marks the fifth straight year that a Wagner student-athlete has been the recipient of this\u00a0award, as she joins former football standouts Steven Ciocci (2012-13) and Phil Faccone (2014-2015) and former swimmers Meredith Ketchmark (2013-14) and Amanda Lucia (2015-16) as recent winners of the award.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Brianna epitomizes what we strive for at Wagner and within the Northeast Conference (NEC),&#8221; said Seahawk Athletic Director <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd4\" href=\"http:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/staff.aspx?staff=3\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"3\">Walt Hameline<\/a><\/dfn>. &#8220;She excelled in academics, athletics, and the community while representing our institution with a positive attitude.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an honor to have a Wagner student-athlete awarded for the fifth consecutive year and truly a testament to our student-athletes&#8217; dedication and also the support of great coaches, faculty, and administrators.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On the softball field, Tredway was a major part of the Seahawks&#8217; most successful season in 10 years, as the Green and White made it all the way to the 2017 NEC Tournament&#8217;s championship series.<\/p>\n<p>The Downingtown native was the NEC&#8217;s regular season batting champion with a .402 average during the regular season, finishing conference play with a league-best .440 mark, which ranked\u00a063<sup>rd<\/sup> in the NCAA. Over the span of 16 league games, the senior had 22 hits and 11 RBIs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are so excited for Bri to win this award at the conclusion of her fantastic Seahawk career,&#8221; commented head softball coach <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd6\" href=\"http:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/coaches.aspx?rc=1023\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"1023\">Angie Churchill<\/a><\/dfn>. &#8220;Her dedication in the classroom, on the field, and in the community made her a great player to coach and someone our younger players could look up to. Her passion and success show\u00a0what our program and this sport is all about. I&#8217;m looking forward to seeing what great\u00a0accomplishments\u00a0her future has in store.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the postseason, Tredway was named to the NEC All-Tournament team after collecting four hits and six RBIs during the championship weekend, including the game-winning three-run home run that lifted the Green and White past Sacred Heart and into the\u00a0championship series.<\/p>\n<p>Tredway\u00a0finished her career with 71 RBIs on 175 hits, 37 doubles, and a .319 career average, en route to being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, All-NEC First Team, and NFCA All-Region Second Team.<\/p>\n<p>Off the field, Tredway graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.79 GPA, majoring in Psychology and Childhood\/Special Education, while being a member of Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership Society), Kappa Delta Pi (Education Leadership Society) and Psy Chi (Psychology Leadership Society), in addition to being the recipient of the Education Department&#8217;s Chair Award-Distinction in Teaching and Outstanding Senior Academic Achievement Award.<\/p>\n<p>In the community, Tredway joined her teammates in volunteering for the annual Tunnel to Towers 5k race, the Staten Island Zoo, Staten Island Children&#8217;s Museum, and the Autism Speaks Walk. During the summer, Tredway also spent over 2,000 hours working as a unit counselor at Dragonfly Forest in Valley Forge and over 720 hours as a unit leader at Camp Tall Tree in Ann Arbor, MI.<\/p>\n<p>The recent graduate also represented the softball team as an active participant of Wagner&#8217;s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to help organize charity events such as the Players vs. Coaches Basketball Charity game for Children&#8217;s Cancer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SOMERSET, NJ \u2013 Wagner College softball standout Brianna Tredway\u00a0of Downingtown\u00a0was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Student-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday.
