{"id":13249,"date":"2016-01-30T20:10:27","date_gmt":"2016-01-31T01:10:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=13249"},"modified":"2016-01-31T09:26:05","modified_gmt":"2016-01-31T14:26:05","slug":"khs-hosts-latest-allin-kennett-pride-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=13249","title":{"rendered":"KHS hosts its latest #ALLIN Kennett pride event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong><em>Fans of all ages show their Blue Demons spirit and pride<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>By Kim Chiomento,<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">News Editor, <em>The Times<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>KENNETT SQUARE \u2013 On occasion \u2018feeling blue\u2019 is a great thing; like this Saturday when Kennett High School (KHS) hosted the latest in a series of Blue Demons \/ Kennett Pride events. \u00a0The greater Kennett community, elementary and middle schools were invited to come out, beat the winter doldrums and cheer on both the boys\u2019 JV and Varsity basketball games with a goal of embracing\u00a0Kennett Consolidated School District\u2019s newly adopted mantra: \u00a0#ALLIN.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1272465\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ALL11-300x225.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1272465\" class=\"wp-image-1272465 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ALL11-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"ALL11\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1272465\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">KCSD student winners of the half-time hoops raffle show off their free Kennett spirit wear on an afternoon when &#8216;feeling blue&#8217; was a<em> great<\/em> thing.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>KCSD students received free game admittance and were each entered into a \u2018half-time hoops\u2019 raffle. Fun-loving KHS cheerleaders delighted the crowd by tossing Kennett spirit wear into the bleachers and fans jockeyed for their attention with the hopes of catching some free gear.<\/p>\n<p>One of the afternoon\u2019s hottest spirit items were the light-up Blue Demons \u2018horns headbands\u2019 sold for $5 as a fundraiser by members of KHS\u2019 Blue Demons Robotics team (to get yours and support the KHS Robotics Team email: demonrobotics4342@gmail.com.)<\/p>\n<p>#ALLIN parent coordinator Chrissy Schwarz explains, \u201cAll in Day was organized to help foster school and greater Kennett spirit and to get families out to basketball games. Special credit and thanks needs to be given to the Kennett Boosters Club, each of our school principals, our new Athletic Director &#8211; Sean Harvey, and of course KCSD Superintendent, Dr. Barry Tomasetti.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1272466\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/all18-300x225.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1272466\" class=\"wp-image-1272466 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/all18-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"all18\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1272466\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">KHS Robotics Team&#8217;s popular light-up &#8216;Blue Demons horns&#8217; headband.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Schwarz, a Boston College alumna, has three children in\u00a0KCSD and a long-standing commitment to coaching youth sports at various levels.\u00a0 \u2018Coach Chrissy\u2019 is known by hundreds of area children\u00a0and their parents for her positivity, high energy level and lovingly telling kids everywhere to \u2018GO BE AWESOME.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can see how much the community and students loved today\u2019s event.\u00a0 We are parents of three Blue Demons, one at each level of schools within the District, and we are most definitely ALL IN.\u201d Schwarz adds, \u201cIt is just great to be a part of such a fun and dedicated school district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the crowd was in the gymnasium with eyes on center court, just a few steps away members of KHS\u2019 Robotics Team were busily working in the basement of KHS Annex, displaying their own version of a big #ALLIN commitment. \u00a0Robotics parent volunteer, Christina Gorman, kindly invited us to take a look at the behind the scenes happenings at one of\u00a0the team&#8217;s\u00a0typical 12 \u2013 7 PM Saturday work sessions.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1272467\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ALL12-300x225.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1272467\" class=\"wp-image-1272467 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ALL12-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"ALL12\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1272467\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">KHS&#8217; Assistant Principal, Dr. Tomorrow Jenkins, shows her Kennett pride while enjoying the game with her family.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people may not realize that members of KHS&#8217; Robotics Team meet every day of the week, in some fashion, averaging three hours after school and between six and seven hours on the weekend\u2026Students come in shifts to manage important team subcommittees that include marketing, strategy, hardware, programming and fundraising; it\u2019s really incredible,\u201d says Gorman.\u00a0 Currently, the team is \u2018gearing-up\u2019 for the First Stronghold Robotics Competition scheduled for March 18 &#8211; 20 at the Springside &#8211; Chestnut Hill Academy.<\/p>\n<p>The spirited afternoon ended with a talented, tough and quick moving Garnet Valley High School Varsity team dominating and eventually chalking-up a\u00a0big win.\u00a0 Despite tough odds to turn the game around, the crowd continued to support Blue Demons players until the end;
