{"id":11286,"date":"2015-08-05T10:11:12","date_gmt":"2015-08-05T14:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=11286"},"modified":"2015-08-05T10:11:12","modified_gmt":"2015-08-05T14:11:12","slug":"dinniman-driving-permit-holders-can-sign-up-for-driving-test-in-advance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=11286","title":{"rendered":"Dinniman: driving permit holders can sign up for driving test in advance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pa-drivers-license-300x199.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1156839\" src=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pa-drivers-license-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"pa-drivers-license\" \/><\/a>State Senator Andy Dinniman announced that new drivers who have obtained a learner\u2019s permit can now sign up for a driving skills road test up to 30 weeks in advance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI have heard from numerous individuals who have had difficulty scheduling a driving test due to high demand, especially during the summer months,\u201d Dinniman said. \u201cIn response, PennDOT is now allowing those with learner\u2019s permits to schedule their road tests up to 30 weeks ahead of time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI encourage new drivers to take advantage of this change and schedule their appointments well ahead of time, so that once the mandatory 6-month skill-building period is complete, they don\u2019t have to wait to take the road test,\u201d he added.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For those who may require an earlier appointment, appointments are also made available within a 6-week time frame. New driving skills test appointments are added each Wednesday for both the 30-week and 6-week time period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For more information or to schedule your driving skills test online, visit PennDOT\u2019s \u201cObtaining Your Driver\u2019s License\u201d webpage <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dmv.state.pa.us\/teendriverscenter\/obtaininglearnerspermit.shtml\"><span class=\"s2\">here<\/span><\/a>. In addition, driving skills road tests can be scheduled by calling 1-800-423-5542.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Those seeking earlier appointments can also check alternate sites for openings, or new availabilities due to cancellations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cPennDOT encourages young drivers to schedule their road tests for the earliest eligibility date printed on their learner\u2019s permit,\u201d Dinniman said. \u201cAgain, be sure to schedule your test early, so that you will be ready to go once all your required hours of supervision are completed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dinniman also reminded young drivers of the increased restrictions placed on their driving privileges. Both those with learner\u2019s permits and junior licenses (under age 18) face certain restrictions on nighttime driving and passengers\/supervision. More information on those restrictions is available <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dmv.state.pa.us\/pdotforms\/young_drivers\/yng_drv_fact_sheet.pdf\"><span class=\"s2\">here.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In addition, he urges parents to talk with their teens about driving safety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cStatistics show that vehicle crashes are the leading cause of teen fatalities,\u201d Dinniman said. \u201cDriving is a privilege and a very serious one at that.
