National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town\u00a0Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Caln Township Police Department, and will\u00a0involve over 16,540 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and Military\u00a0bases around the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The township held its first event in 2014, and was one of only seven\u00a0municipalities throughout the country to be awarded &#8220;Rookie of the Year&#8221; honors by the NATW.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">National Night Out is designed to accomplish four goals. The first is to heighten crime and\u00a0drug prevention awareness. The second is to generate support for, and participation in local\u00a0anticrime efforts. The third is to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community\u00a0partnerships. The final goal is to send a message to criminals to let them know that our\u00a0neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">From 6-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4<span class=\"s2\">, <\/span>residents in Caln are urged to band together in a\u00a0township-wide act of solidarity aimed at bringing together citizens, police, neighborhood groups,\u00a0town watch and public officials. People can get involved simply by keeping their porch or front\u00a0yard lights on through the night, or by organizing an event for their neighborhood to accomplish\u00a0the goals of National Night Out. The Caln Township Police Department will be hosting a\u00a0community event at Caln Municipal Park for an evening of crime prevention and public safety\u00a0awareness, as well as attractions for the entire family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The township is offering thanks\u00a0to the many generous sponsors, and officials say they plan building on last year&#8217;s success, and\u00a0plan on an informative and fun-filled event for everyone in the area to attend. It will be held at\u00a0Caln Municipal Park (across from the Giant) on Municipal Drive in Thorndale, between 6-8:30\u00a0p.m., on Tuesday, August 4<span class=\"s3\">. <\/span>The event will feature guest speakers, a 5k charity run and fun\u00a0walk organized by the Chester County Running Store, police, K9, and fire department\u00a0demonstrations, community safety information, prescription drug drop-off station, a live band,\u00a0food and refreshments, games, gifts from our sponsors, and entertainment for the kids, concluding\u00a0with a spectacular fireworks show!
