{"id":10278,"date":"2015-05-14T13:57:47","date_gmt":"2015-05-14T17:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=10278"},"modified":"2015-05-14T13:57:47","modified_gmt":"2015-05-14T17:57:47","slug":"tredyffrin-police-reinstate-bike-patrols-on-chester-valley-trail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chescotimes.com\/?p=10278","title":{"rendered":"Tredyffrin police reinstate bike patrols on Chester Valley Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_110591\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/9cec3d05-3597-4847-ab9b-666509ee13e4-300x271.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-110591\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1105918\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" alt=\"9cec3d05-3597-4847-ab9b-666509ee13e4\" src=\"http:\/\/chescotimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/9cec3d05-3597-4847-ab9b-666509ee13e4-300x271.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"271\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-110591\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tredyffrin Police Officer Neil Jackson and Officer Rhonda Carroll with one of the electric patrol bikes.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>TREDYFFRIN \u2014 The Chester Valley Trail now has added security for its users. \u00a0Just last week, the township&#8217;s Police Department reinstated its Bike Patrol on the Chester Valley Trail after an 8-year hiatus.<\/p>\n<p>Officer Rhonda Carroll, the Department\u2019s new Director of Community Policing &amp; Crime Prevention, was the woman behind the Bike Patrol.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t had many incidents on the trails in Tredyffrin, but we wanted to take a proactive approach in protecting our residents and the users of the trail.\u201d stated Carroll, \u201cOur trails are a source of relaxation and entertainment; making people feel safe is just another step towards promoting the trail network.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The township is responsible for almost half of the Chester Valley Trail. \u00a0Police Officers will be riding more than seven miles to patrol the trail, which presents a challenge; although nothing which we cannot overcome, according to Officer Carroll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf someone ever needed an Officer\u2019s assistance on the trail, they need to have enough energy to handle any situation they might encounter. \u00a0Riding over seven miles would greatly dwindle an individual\u2019s energy level.\u201d said Carroll.<\/p>\n<p>She decided to reach out to local electric bike shop owner, Gary DiVincenzo, owner of Hybrid Cycles in West Chester to help solve this dilemma.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPedal Assist Electric Power Bicycles were created for situations just like this.\u201d says DiVincenzo, \u201cThey increase the speed and endurance of a rider. \u00a0When officers are traveling over these long distances on the trail, Electric Power Bicycles are the best solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Department purchased two Pedal Assist Electric Power Bicycles from Hybrid Cycles for their five officer Bike Patrol. \u00a0If the group is successful, Carroll will look into buying more to accommodate the whole force.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the Tredyffrin Township Bike Patrol, contact Rhonda Carroll at <a href=\"mailto:rcarroll@tredyffrin.org\">rcarroll@tredyffrin.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TREDYFFRIN \u2014 The Chester Valley Trail now has added security for its users. \u00a0Just last week, the township&#8217;s Police Department reinstated its Bike Patrol on the Chester Valley Trail after an 8-year hiatus.
