Middle school students help make marketing plan

FAMScamp

Students from Kennett and Phoenixville Middle Schools worked to develop marketing plans as part of Chester County Futures AHEAD Camp.

KENNETT SQUARE — Chatham Financial hosted the first Chester County Futures AHEAD Camp on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.  Over 40 students from Kennett Middle School and Phoenixville Middle School spent the day working on a Project Based Learning curriculum with Chatham Financial staff, attending marketing workshops and learning about careers.

Tim Ernst, Director of Marketing and Communications at Chatham Financial stated, “Getting to work alongside Futures’ bright and energetic students was such a thrill for all the Chatham Financial volunteers.   We hope the day encompassed for the students what the program is all about; with teamwork, hard work and learning, anything is possible.”

Students worked in small teams with both Chatham and Futures’ staff to design a marketing plan for this new middle school program.  Students created a Futures AHEAD logo and tagline, developed a plan for students across districts to interact using social media platforms and finally presented their results to a group of 50 Chatham professionals who voted on the winners in each category.  The winning logo was linked with Chester County Futures’ logo and the new tagline is “The Future is Now!”

Student takeaways from this camp included career exploration, increased 21st Century Skills like Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity and positive interactions with students from outside their home school district.
