Pair will receive award from Chester County Fund for Women and Girls

Two co-founders of the Willistown Conservation Trust have been named the 2014 recipients of the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls’ Kitchen Table Award, which will be presented at the fund’s Making a Difference Luncheon, at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Malvern on Friday, May 2.
The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls established the Kitchen Table Award, its only award, in 2012 to honor outstanding Chester County women who have made substantive contributions through service and/or philanthropy to improve the lives of women and girls through their own time, or talents, or resources. Bonnie Van Alen, president and executive director of Willistown Conservation Trust, and Alice Hausmann, vice chair of the board of trustees and chair of the trust’s Community Farm Program Committee, have improved lives for Chester County families for nearly 35 years, a Chester County Fund for Women and Girls news release said.
Through grass-roots efforts, the pair enlisted many community partners and has preserved thousands of acres of open space in the heart of Chester County. Because of their work, Chester County families develop a sense of place, learn about the environment, and connect to nature in a way that promotes a legacy of stewardship for future generations. Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone will present a special citation on behalf of the commissioners, recognizing their contributions, the release said.
The luncheon will also feature keynote speaker Taunya English, senior health writer at WHYY. English tracks national health care stories and reports from across the Philadelphia region. A regular contributor to several WHYY programs, she has documented the links between nutrition and disease; the changing relationship between doctors and patients; and efforts to give people healthier places to live, work and play, the release said.
This year’s luncheon will celebrate a milestone: More than $2 million in grants for programs that provide vital services to women, girls, and families across Chester County have been awarded. For more information about the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls, visit http://ccwomenandgirls.org.
