Dog licenses are past due for 2018

WEST CHESTER – The Chester County Treasurer’s Office is issuing a notice that all dog owners in the county should, by now, have purchased licenses for their pets for 2018.  The notice comes in anticipation of canvassing in the county by the Dog Warden during the month of May.

All dogs age three months or older must be licensed by January 1 of each year. The fee is $6.50 for each spayed or neutered dog and $8.50 for other dogs. Older adults and persons with disabilities may purchase a license for $4.50 for spayed or neutered dogs and $6.50 for others.

Additionally, all dogs and non-feral cats (three months of age and older) must be vaccinated against rabies. Booster vaccinations must be administered periodically to maintain lifelong immunity.

Violators can be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation plus court costs.

Dog licenses may be purchased in person at the Chester County Treasurer’s Office, 313. W. Market Street, West Chester  between 8:30am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; by mail; online at www.chesco.org/treasurer or at over a dozen outside licensing agents throughout the County.  A full list of agents is available on the Treasurer’s Office website, and questions may be directed to the Treasurer’s office at 610-344-6370.

If your dog gets lost you may visit www.palostdogs.com to post your dog’s digital picture and information for free.  If you find what you believe to be a lost dog with a dog license tag, contact the Treasurer’s Office at 610-344-6370 during normal business hours and provide the tag number and years displayed on the tag.  If you cannot reach someone in the Treasurer’s Office, contact your local police department.
