Coatesville man shot to death in city’s West Side

COATESVILLE — Gun violence took the life of a city man, after gunfire erupted late Tuesday on the the city’s West Side.

Police said that 22-year-old Cornell Thompson was found lying on the ground in the area of Plum and Concord streets, suffering from gunshot wounds, after police responded a report of gunfire near the 300 block of Charles Street.

The two police officers who responded immediately began emergency first aid on Thompson until EMT units and an ambulance arrived shortly after and rushed him to Brandywine Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:47 p.m. in the Emergency Room.

Multiple area police and EMS units responded to the scene to help: Chester County Detectives, Pennsylvania State Police, West Caln, West Brandywine, East Brandywine, Parkesburg, South Coatesville, Valley, East Fallowfield, Caln, and Coatesville Fire & Ambulance.

City police and other agencies are conducting an investigation into the incident – and are seeking any information from the public. Anybody with information should contact the City of Coatesville Police Department at 610-384-2300 or Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.
