TCHS hosts 2015 Auto Collision Experience May 9

Students in the Automotive Collision Technology program restored two cars to give away to a family in need as part of the Recycled Rides program. TCHS Brandywine is the first high school in the country to participate in this program.

DOWNINGTOWN — Nineteen automotive collision industry experts, businesses and advocates are hosting the 2015 Auto Collision Experience (ACE Spotlight) at Technical College High School (TCHS) Brandywine Campus on Saturday, May 9, held from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The ACE Spotlight is free of charge and features tours, demonstrations, workshops and two gifting ceremonies of restored cars for families in need as part of the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides program.

Designed to showcase the wide variety of careers and career paths available in the fast-growing automotive industry, Ace Spotlight 2015 will include information about career opportunities and growth across all disciplines. “The ACE Spotlight event will be a great opportunity for students and adults alike to learn more about the exciting and technically oriented careers in the auto collision field,” says Dr. Kirk Williard, the director of career, technical and customized education for the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU). “There will be multiple opportunities for students to interact with trained professionals showcasing the unique talents and skills that lead to great success in this very dynamic industry.” 

Attendees of the event will have to opportunity to tour TCHS and programs related to careers in the industry, attend workshops, participate in exciting demonstrations at vendor booths and enter into raffles for exciting prizes. Pre-registered guests will automatically be entered into a drawing for an iPad Mini. All guests must be present to win raffle prizes. Food and drink prepared by TCHS Culinary Arts students will be available free of charge through a donation by R.W. Mallen Auto Paint & Equipment.

Workshops for students, parents and those interested in automotive careers will be presented by industry leaders. The workshops are designed to highlight the multitude of career paths available in the fast-growing and high-paying auto collision repair industry. From careers in graphic design and advertising, sales and customer service, repair work and management, there are many opportunities for success in this field.

In addition, TCHS Brandywine Automotive Collision Technology students will present two fully restored cars to two Chester County families in need as part of the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides program, sponsored by Geico.

The mission of the Recycled Rides program is to “collaborate to repair and donate vehicles to deserving individuals and service organizations in local communities throughout the country.”  Since 2007, auto body and collision shops have worked with Recycled Rides to give away close to 1,000 cars. TCHS Brandywine is the first high school program to participate in this program to completely rebuild and donate cars. The giving ceremonies will begin at noon and will also include prizes of gift cards and special donations from the event sponsors.
